How to Prepare Your Home for a Professional Deep Cleaning

You do not need to clean your house before the cleaners arrive. The most useful preparation is simply making it easier for the cleaning team to reach the surfaces and areas you want cleaned, understand your priorities, and work safely and efficiently.

1. Pick up belongings that are covering the areas you want cleaned

You do not need a perfectly organized home. But when counters, floors, bathroom vanities, furniture, or other surfaces are heavily covered with personal belongings, the team has less direct access to the surfaces underneath.

Before a Deep Cleaning, it can help to put away loose clothing, toys, paperwork, toiletries, dishes, and other personal items where practical. The goal is not to make the home look perfect—it is to make the cleaning surfaces accessible.

2. Decide whether anything is especially important to you

If there is an area you are particularly concerned about, tell us. For example, you may care most about bathroom buildup, kitchen detail work, baseboards, blinds, or tracks. Knowing that ahead of time helps make expectations clearer.

3. Make sure we can access the home

If no one will be home, the access plan is especially important. A team that cannot enter the property cannot begin the scheduled cleaning.

4. Tell us about pets

Let the office know about pets in the home and anything the team should know about them. If a pet may try to escape, becomes anxious around unfamiliar people or cleaning equipment, or should remain in a particular part of the home, arranging a secure and comfortable location can make the visit safer and easier for everyone.

5. Point out delicate, damaged, or do-not-touch items

If something requires special handling—or you simply do not want it moved or cleaned—please communicate that before work begins. This can include fragile décor, unstable furniture, sentimental objects, damaged fixtures, specialty surfaces, or electronics and equipment that should not be disturbed.

It is also helpful to identify existing damage that could otherwise be mistaken for something that happened during the cleaning.

6. Choose specialty add-ons before the appointment when possible

7. Give the team room to work when practical

You are not required to leave your home during the cleaning. If you will be home, simply giving the team reasonable access to the rooms they are working in can help. If you work from home or need a particular room at a certain time, let the team know so the cleaning order can be coordinated when practical.

Some situations are different from ordinary cleaning preparation.
